The East Shore Express to Sand Harbor

So, I’m talking with my sister last night, and she mentions to me that she and her husband are planning a trip to Sand Harbor this weekend, Sunday to be exact.  I immediately thought, “They had better plan to arrive at the entry gate by 9 a.m. if they want to get a parking spot.” I asked her what time they’d be arriving with the thought that maybe I would join them for a few hours in the morning.  When she said, “noon,” I thought “OH BOY she has no idea how busy that beach gets in the middle of summer, not to mention that they’ll most likely never get in and find a parking spot.” You cannot walk in from the road anymore.

Then I remembered that the TTD is running a shuttle, The East Shore Express, from Incline Village to Sand Harbor.  The shuttle runs every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and picks up people every 20 minutes.  I told her this, and she immediately checked out the details online, and now plans to use the shuttle. The fare is family-friendly — $3 general and $1.50 for children 5-12, seniors 60+ and disabled persons.  This fare INCLUDES entry to Sand Harbor, and it’s round trip.  BUT, don’t forget to bring EXACT CHANGE.

I really wish this service had been available when I was younger.  I remember traffic delays and significant back-ups, people making u-turns to find parking spots and my parents getting irritated…not a fun way to start an outing on a vacation.

Check back next week for my sister’s experience.
